Joseph Center Christian Community School
We were excited to begin work on our first e-Learning lab in Zambia, for the Joseph Center Christian Community School. The school is in the suburb of Chilanga, just outside of the capital, Lusaka. Chilanga, with an estimated population of 35,000 is seriously under-provided for in terms of schools and even more so for IT access. Consequently pupils leave school with only minimal levels of IT literacy, restricting their job prospects and access to higher education.
ICT was introduced on the national curriculum in 2014 for primary schools, so children as young as 9 are expected to learn about computers. Before the Centre was completed the school had just 2 laptops, which was woefully inadequate for the number of students enrolled at the school. It also meant that only a limited number of students could sit for their exams. Now the school can apply to become an examination centre and will also use the facility to provide IT access to the local community.
