ITSA has four main aims: - Preserve the environment
- Support the local community
- Accelerate education in Africa
- Reduce the cultural divide
Preserving the environment- 3 million computers are discarded in the UK every year, many of which would otherwise end up in landfill
- ITSA extends the working life of computers by sending them to schools and community projects in Africa
- The computers sent to Africa are recycled at the end of their working life
- In light of the EUs WEEE directive, donating computers to ITSA provides a responsible and benevolent means of disposing of your old IT equipment
Supporting the local community- UNEMPLOYED: ITSA works in partnership with Prospect Training and SLS Training, providing work placements for the long term unemployed
- SCHOOLS: ITSA helps set up computer refurbishing programmes in schools, teaching the students valuable skills and broadening their work experience
- PRISONS: ITSA runs computer refurbishing programmes in Her Majestys prisons like Winchester, Stafford and Whitemore, based on the principle of restorative justice
Accelerating Education in Africa - Computers are an essential tool for learning and communication
- Computers enable schools to download curriculum material from the internet
- Knowledge of computing dramatically improves employment prospects
- Aids and other health awareness programmes are installed on computers, promoting health education
Reducing the cultural divide- In conjunction with the Global Dimension Trust, ITSA links UK schools with schools in Africa via the Share to Learn programme (STLP)
- The STLP focuses on subjects of common interest, e.g. health and nutrition, environment, wildlife, farming and creative arts
