The Chelsea Building Society has donated 66 computers to IT Schools Africa.
The computers became available folowing a routine upgrade at the company's headquarters in Cheltenham. Data security and final disposal of the computers in Africa were key considerations for the Building Society in making the donation. To eliminate any risk to customers' data, the hard drives of the PCs were completely erased by the Chelsea's IT staff and then given a final check on IT Schools Africa's specialist equipment. At the end of life, the charity will collect the computors from the schools and ship them to a recycling plant in South Africa. Pictured at the handover at the Chelsea's headquarters, Martyn Baldwin (centre), Head of Support Services at the Chelsea Building Society commented "We are delighted to be able to make this donation. Chelsea has a strong corporate responsibility policy and we believe this is an ethical and environmentally-friendly way of recycling this equipment" |
